You Gotta Give to Get

In creating traffic to your website, it is best to be willing to give traffic to other sites.  A fair amount of time is spent each week looking at other sites that have similar themes and ideas that my blogs have.  I read to see what others have to say and I comment on their writing.  The reasons are multiple:

* By commenting on the other sites, the webmasters will often reply or visit your site.  Remember that traffic = $$$.  You can have the ost excellent website in the world, but if nobody knows about it, how will you profit.  It is like having the most exquisite restaurant in the world that nobody has ever visited.  The food may be out of this world, but if you never have any visitors or customers, you won’t be able to stay in business for very long.

* You will see the trends that are developing out there.  If you only  look at trends that interest you and you only, you may be the only one that ever is interested in what you have to say.  Try looking at what is happening out there.  Don’t be cause by surprised if something exciting happens and you fail to notice because you failed to look beyond yourself.

* You have the ability to network with others.  You can share ideas, learn tips and trade “secrets”, even develop future business contacts.  Don’t live in a fortress and let nobody in.

* You can receive criticism.  Sometimes it takes another opinion to show where you lack.  I welcome all criticism because I look at it as a way to grow into a more empathetic writer.  Maybe you should too!

Keep in mind that there are a lot of hungry souls out there that can provide you with some of your greatest ideas for making more money for your life.  Some will use that to get out of the shackles of debt while others may use the money for pleasure.  Remember that money is only a tool, it is not evil unless somebody uses it to be evil.

Let me know what you think, and here’s to a successful life! (you can even visit my blog to learn about saving money)

It’s Not Called The Information “Super”Highway For No Reason

That’s because there is a lot of traffic to be had out there.  Some estimates put the estimate that there are 250 million people out there every day.  That’s MILLION.  Many people use it to find information about different topics.  Twenty-five years ago, you would have to go to the library, use the card catalog, search up and down shelve, and, if you were lucky, find the answer to a pressing question.  Thank God times have changed.  Usually the answer (with the help of an Internet-connected computer) can be found in a matter of seconds. People will often be willing to pay for the information, especially if looking for a song, a book, an image.

That’s where you would come in.  Often people use Google to find what they need, but sometimes will just use the phrase with a www. in front and a .com at the end.  For example, if you were looking for sneakers, you could go to Google and put it into the search box, or you might open a browser and type in www.sneakers.com. You will find results both ways.  The key to having high traffic (and high $) is to have a good name.  You can find availability of names at GoDaddy and it might even produce a few tips for names.  Premium names may cost more, but there are plenty of names available for around $10 a year.

Here are some ideas for creating traffic to your website (once a great name has been chosen and a hosting company selected)

  • Create a blog – there are some great free tools available at WordPress. Blogging and posting on a regular basis helps also to have you ranked higher in the Google search engine.  Because so many use Google, it is important to be ranked high.
  • PPC, or pay-per-click -  many of the search engines have the service available to advertise (you have seen them, the “ads by Google” or sponsored ads).  It works like this: You have an advertisement and you only pay when that ad is clicked.  The key is to create traffic.
  • Let others know about it – This could be as easy as mentioning to your friends that you have a website.  Viral marketing is an exciting way to advertise and create traffic for very little investment.
  • Read – there is a plethora of examples to be found on the Web, it just takes some investment of time.  The great thing is that you can do it on your time, you don’t have to go when the library is open.

The library now is always open!  More traffic ideas to come in a few days!

Do The Research, Baby!

When starting an online presence, you need to do a little bit of research.  That is, of course, if you want to be successful an have traffic come to your site.  There are many things to research when searching for a subject to cater to (and with so many specialized interests out there, you can find a niche that would cater to just about anybody).  These include (but are certainly not limited to):

* Number of people that are looking for a particular subject.  For example, if you were wondering how many searches there were for searching for pomeranians, simply go to Google, type in the search word “pomeranians” and google will quickly return 599,000 results. That’s a lot of different searches for a little dog.  And some people do not like or are afraid of dogs.

* Read the blogs.  This is another no-brainer in that you would go to Google, type in your subject followed by a space and the word “blog”.  Chances are you will get several results.  If there are very few results pulled from your search, that either tells you that there is no market for your subject or that you may have more exclusivity in that market.

* If you are looking to sell a physical product, try going to Yahoo!Shopping, there you will find your product, what the average price will be and, depending on the number of results, how saturated your market is going to be.  Chances are that if there is a big market for something, there will be room for you to be in there and start making your own online money.

Be diligent, be thorough, be excited!  This is a great time to be able to start your own online business, but you have to work smart in order to succeed.  Next time, Creating Traffic.

What’s In a Name?

In order to build an online presence and having traffic to your website, the choice of the name for the web address is of utmost importance.  The web address must have something to do with the product or service that you are offering, or you may find cobwebs growing on your website.  Here are some tips to choosing a good domain name:

* Find a keyword phrase and check its availability.  One of the best sources for domain names that I have found is GoDaddy.  The rates are reasonable and when searching for a domain name, they often will pop out some that are similar that you haven’t thought of.

* Don’t use all initials.  If you recall the early days of the Internet, it seemed that initials were the thing.  This is great if you are KFC (originally Kentucky Fried Chicken), but not so great if you are Domains Of Real Kingdoms Making A Niche (DORKMAN).  Take the time and do the research and it will save you in the long run.

* Use a .com ending, especially if you are doing a business.  There are more and more endings available (.org, for example), but people still associate .com with a more legitimate website.

Be sure to check back here for more sources, links, and ideas.  I would love to hear from you!

Welcome!!

Welcome to the new front page of money-for-my-life.com.  My blog is full of money saving ideas that you can save money to help pay down your credit card debt and eliminate that by incorporating several savings ideas that most people will find useful.  Of course, half of the equation is to make more money.

This can be done in several ways: you can find a better job, you can learn new skills, you can begin doing Internet Marketing.  Finding a new job may be a challenge at this point in the game, especially given the somewhat bleak forecast by “experts” in the economy.  You are never too old to learn new skills or a new degree.  I am not one to belittle our education system, especially since I spent eight of my years as a teacher and 18 years in the classroom.  I have a degree, but some of the things that will make you the most money the fastest will be things that don’t require an advanced degree.  One of the best ways that I have found to make money quickly can be found here.  You can also do the research that I have done to find sources (they are out there, believe me) that can help you with everything that you will need to be successful.

The key, as always, is to do  something.  Action is always better than inaction!

The Time Approached (T-6 days)

Sunday, April 19, 2009 will be the debut of the improved website.

I know that those of you who have been inundated with the emails promising instant riches from the internet in just two hours a day will not see that here.  In my quest for credit card debt eliminaton I am using a two-pronged appoach: One, I am saving money whereever I can and you can follow in my blog and 2) make more money, particularly online.  That will be found here on www.money-for-my-life.com and at blog and a site being set up soon (obviously, I have quite a bit of a time constraint).  Thanks for visit and there will be more content to be found in the very near future.

A Bit of a Preview

To get ahead financially you essentially have to make more than you spend.  One of the ways is by saving money.  You can get ahead by making what salary you happen to be on (unless it is just minimum wage cleaning bathrooms in a call center, and yes I have done that).  You can get ahead by bettering yourself through conscious effort, going back to school, working toward a promotion, etc.

One thing that has exploded in popularity is internet marketing, finding a niche and coming up with a solution to meet that niche’s particular desires.  I know you have seen the emails saying that you can make $1,000 a day using Internet Marketing and Sales.  Can you?  Of course.  Will you?  Not without a lot of hard work.  And there is nothing wrong with hard work.  I have been there and I have explored some of the hype andd found that some of it is true, but there is also a lot of untruth out there.  A lot of it boils down to desire.

There is a difference in stating that you’d like to have more money and stating that you will have more money.  Feel the difference?  One has a whimsical feeling to it while the second has a air of definitiveness of purpose.  I will be sharing with you in the soon-to-be-here future what has worked for me and what may work for you.  I will keep it real.  Those who knew me a generation ago will recall that I was a teacher, but there was more to life than the subject which I taught.  I knew that, and they knew that I knew that as well.  I am still a teacher, just allow me to open your eyes and teach you as well.

Not Where, But What

Sometimes it is just how a phrase is considered that will begin to show a shift in your thinking about money, credit card debt elimination, … life. I knew that the shift had begun when the question on the way shifted from being “where are we having dinner?” to “what are we having for dinner?” Let me set one thing straight, I am not a sexist that asks that his wife cook his dinner and have it ready when I walk in the door, like those from a different era.  Quite the opposite is true: I love to cook and I do not mind cooking dinner and have even gone as far as cooking the traditional holiday meals.  But there was a problem.  Because of poor planing convenience was chosen over practicality and frugality.  The nightly evening meal would often be eaten at a restaurant (there is somwhat of an aversion to fast food), so there would be a meal most nearly every night charged to the credit card.  Big mistake.  Not only was this meal setting us back $25-$30 each evening (on average $150 per week. or roughly $7,500 per year) it was being put on a credit card on which the minimum monthly payment was aroun $100 per month.  (You can see how the debt quickly grew by leaps and bounds because since the minimum payment was being made, it was was gaining interest at around 22%…OUCH!!).

A change had to be made.  It is said that “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”.  True.  Saving money and getting out of credit card debt is important to you, you will need to shift your thinking to do more planning.  Plan out your meals in advance so that you will not have to run to the store or make a quick drive-through stop.  Believe me when I tell you that stopping that mindset will free up money to pay down your credit card debt, or, if you are one of the few that have no credit card debt, it will free up money to invest for the future.  Keep the faith!
