Internet Marketing: Tag, You’re It!

Now that you have your second post available, you can do a little bit more to help your effort. On the right side of your creation page for your posts, there are tools that will help you: the Tags category and the Categories category. This will be a way to help sort your blogs when you have a number of them accumulated. Not everybody uses these, but this is more for your convenience. Right now, I have over 150 posts to my blog about eliminating credit card debt called moneyformylife. Since I have quite a few there, as the blogs get written, they are tagged and categorized so that it is organized more for me.

Now, for your Wordpress blog, it should now be set up to automatically ping your posts every time that you post to the Wordpress blog on your own site. Your blogger.com site, however, is not. Don’t get lazy and forget to ping that one because it is not set up to do it for you. You want to have the search engines find your site, and pinging your blog is one of the easiest ways to get that to happen.

Remember, traffic = $$. Tomorrow, we will look at ways to monetize your blogs.

Have a GREAT day!

Internet Marketing: Using A Private Label Rights Article As a Basis For Your Blog Post

You have to alter it enough to make it unique, original content: You cannot just copy and paste it and put it on your blog post. Why? When Google looks at it, if your post is exactly like another post out there, it will not index your post, and believe me, you want to have your blog post indexed by Google. That way, when people search phrases out there, you will have your blog displayed in their search results.

Imagine that you went to a store to find throw pillows for your couch. The sales person brings out five pillows. You ask if there are more. The salesperson scoops up the original five pillows, goes to the back room and emerges with the same five pillows. The salesperson gives them different names. You are not amused. The same thing goes for Google. It will not waste it’s time and yours bringing you duplicate results.

You will need to take a paragraph or two and re-write them so that they will have content that is deemed unique and original. “How much is that?” you ask. Typically, the answer is 40%. You could take the sentence “throw the ball” and re-write it to say “grasp the baseball and hurl it with as much force as you can muster”. Same basic concept, but the second one is a little more descriptive and is not the same.

I avoid this on my blog  by writing everything on that site from scratch. That way, I know that it is unique.

Have a GREAT day! (More to follow)

Internet Marketing: Pinging Your Blogger.com Blog

You need to “ping” your blog.  This is just a simple way of telling the world about your blog. I like using the site Ping-O-Matic. Your Wordpress blog already has a ping list set up, but your blogger.com blog does not.  This may seem intimidating and scary, but it is relatively simple to set up and use.

You will need your blog URL, which you should already have saved on a file, but it you don’t log into your blog and click on the View Blog link. Notice the URL at the top of the page and copy it. You will put in the name of your blog, and the URL for the home page of your blog. Then, select the services that you want to ping your blog, and then Send Pings.

It is that simple.

Have a GREAT Day!!

Internet Marketing: The Use of a FREE Blog!

We have talked about setting up a blog on your own website, but there is another, free, service available to you.  It is at blogger.com. The blog can be set up in three simple steps, but it is free. There is no cost involved. I personally have 7 blogs set up through blogger.com, but only a handful are updated on a daily basis.

You will need a web site title or what you want the title of your web site to be. At blogger.com, the website address will end in blogspot.com. Blogger.com is where you set up your account, but the location of the blog (which is short for web log) will be xxxxx.blogspot.com. Once you enter your information, you can then create your first post. It can be something simple such as “Welcome to my blog about [whatever you choose your blog to be about]“.

You will then click publish (please use the spell-check feature because even the best of us make mistakes, and mistakes will often make people not want to return) and Viola! You are now pulished on the world wide web.

I have kept today simple because I do realize that this is a Monday and sometimes it is difficult to get going in full gear early in the week!

Have a GREAT day!

Internet Marketing: Writing Your First Post To Your Blog, part II

The other half of writing your first post to your blog is to add a picture. You may not want to do this step and that is completely up to you. Underneath the title section of your post, there is a tool par that says Upload/Insert. Move your mouse over the icons, and you will see that you can upload and image, video, audio, or media. These items can add excitement to your blog and make them “sticky” or people will “stick” around longer. The longer that they are on your site, the better the chance is that they will come back. For example, I can add the image of the book that I have written just below this paragraph.  That would make my blog to be more interesting.

bookNow, this image can be a picture of you, a picture related to the subject of your blog. If you don’t have any good images, you can go out to Google and search for royalty free images. The possibilities are endless.

All you have to do now is to spell check your post (there is an icon that will spell check for you) and then save it. You want to save it in the event that you have a computer crash before you can publish, or post you writing to your Wordpress blog on your web site.

Internet Marketing - Finding a Theme For Your Wordpress Blog

In the early days of the Internet, blogs and discussions were text only and that was in just the standard green and black of the CRT. Boring by today’s standards, especially with the increase use of video, music, and graphics. You want a theme that is all about your product. Don’t make it too “busy” because people will be less likely to follow the content of your blog. Your blog needs to be a source of information to which people will return again and again to find that trusted information. When they trust you enough, they will reward you by referring others to your site and by purchasing things.

Just don’t choose the standard setting because some services consider it to be a spam blog  or “Splog”. You can get some excellent themes for your blog by going to the following site:  http://themes.wordpress.net. When you first arrive you will be given over 900 themes from which to choose. It is advised to use a theme with two columns. More than two columns can be distracting for the reader. You can choose whatever color you like, but keep in mind that black with white text doesn’t work well on all computers, and you will lose readers if you choose that color scheme.

You also have a choice on whether you want a fixed width or not. Choose the fixed width. Have consistency in your blog and people will consistently visit. The nice thing is that if you don’t like how a blog is working out for your, you can always change it. You will choose a theme and download it to your local hard drive. Tomorrow we will look at how to install this theme.

Have a GREAT day!

Internet Marketing - The Final Step To Configuring Your Wordpress Blog

The final step that you need to fulfill in order to fully get your Wordpress blog up and running on your website is a fairly simple one. Click on the tab “writing” sub tab on your blog. You should already be in settings from setting up your permalinks. Scroll to the bottom of the page to where it says “Update Services”.

This field should already have one pinging service listed. Copy and paste the following service into that section. Once you are pasted in, click “save changes” and you are finished,

Here is the list to copy and paste:

Internet Marketing - More Blogroll Configuration

For the contact information, you will want to put the URL for your website. Putting in the other contact information is an alright option. There is an option, though, that you will want to pay particular attention to. It is the “about yourself” option. Write two or three lines about why you are an expert in the area in which your website is all about, or why you are so excited to be involved in this area. Then you select “Update Profile”. It should then say that changes to your profile is complete.

Almost.

You still need to set up your permalinks, and again you will go to the upper right corner and click on the “settings” tab. Choose the sub tab, “permalinks”.  Choose the very last option that says “custom structure”. Type in the following line exactly as it is:

/%postname%.html

Once that custom structure is entered, click “save changes” . Now your permalink is updated. There is one last step to setting up your blog.

That will be covered tomorrow. Have a GREAT day!

Internet Marketing - Clearing the Blogroll

Today, we are going to set up your Wordpress blog to clear the blogroll.

What you need to do is click on the tab that says “Manage” , and the sub tab for “Links”. Once you have clicked on the “Links” tab, it will list a bunch of other web sites that are related to Wordpress. The simplest thing is to just select each and every one of those links and click on “delete”. It is that simple, because now you have cleared your blogroll.

You will now move to set up your profile. You will find what you need to do in the far right corner in a link called “users”.  You will find your admin name and click it, which will give your several options. You will have the ability to change the color scheme for the admin control panel and other actions. The most important thing is putting in your first and last name as well as your nickname. This will be the name that will display every time you post to your blog, so it is important that you choose your nickname wisely.

Tomorrow we will finish exploring the setup for your blog.

Have a GREAT day!!
